Michael T. Mathis; the founder of the Burned Children Recovery Foundation is a very unique person.

Michael at the age of 11 was an allstar catcher. His dream was to grow up and play professional baseball like his father Herb Mathis, winner of the Cy Young Award and member of the Seattle Fastpitch Hall of Fame.

At the age of 11 Michael was burned severely in an accidental fire that you can read about in Michael’s story.

This didn’t stop Michael from going on to live a full and active life, and coach his oldest daughter Summer and many other kids in baseball and basketball. Michael can still be found on the softball fields working with young kids or outside of his house teaching his daughter Emily how to catch like dad.

Michael has been working with children all of his adult life and today is the Founder and full time President of the Burned Children Recovery Foundation. The outreach work Michael has done from the time the Foundation was founded in 1989 has helped more than 95,000 burned children to go on and live happier lives.

When Michael is not working with children or the families of burned children you can find him still running up a court shooting basketball hoops or running the river after the all elusive prize salmon.
